My review of I'll Find You
I'll Find You is a psychological thriller that was hard to put down. it's a disturbing and chilling read that packs an emotional punch.
I was drawn to this book by the blurb, that of a young woman, Emily, a nurse, observing what she believes to be a resuscitation in the middle of the night, and who is told the following morning that what she experienced was a nightmare. Did she, or did she not see a young woman being resucusted? Was it simply a nightmare or is something being covered up? If so, what happened to her? This instantly drew me in, both as a former nurse and as a reader of psychological thrillers. I wanted to unearth the truth.
Emily is at the heart of this story. An experienced nurse who is still dealing with the disappearance of her younger stster. She is trying to juggle her working life with her personal demons, and the fact that she needs to find her sister safe and well. The book explores issues around depression, loneliness and the pursuit of life at all costs.
This book works so well as a psychological thriller because of Emily. The unreliable narrator. Is what she is telling us the truth? Is she unhinged? Is she suffering psychological trauma because of what happened to her sister? We never quite know, and it is these doubts that threw me and made me question what was happening and if it was true.
It's a riveting and well written story. It's also obvious that the author has vast medical and nursing knowledge. I enjoyed this aspect of the book very much. The medical terminology, the ward culture and nursing environment.
However, i did have to tell myself that this was fiction, as I knew that several medical practices that happened in the book could not possibly happen in real life. I just went along with the flow and enjoyed the various twists and turns and shocks along the way.
I'll Find You is a captivating psychological thriller that was a joy to read.
